AC not cooling? 7 simple checks before you call a technician

An AC that blows warm air on a hot day is no fun. Many cooling problems have simple causes. Try these checks first. If none of them help, book an AC service and share what you found.

1. Check the mode and temperature

Make sure the remote is on Cool mode, not Fan or Dry, and set to 24°C or lower. Replace the remote batteries if the display looks faint.

2. Clean the filters

Dusty filters are the most common reason for weak cooling. Open the front panel, slide out the mesh filters, wash them with plain water and let them dry fully before putting them back.

3. Look at the outdoor unit

The outdoor unit needs space to release heat. Remove anything blocking it, like boxes, plants or plastic covers. If it sits in strong afternoon sun, shade above it (not around it) can help.

4. Close doors and windows

An AC sized for one room cannot cool an open hall. Close doors and draw curtains during the hottest hours.

5. Listen and look for ice

Ice on pipes, water dripping indoors, or loud rattling are signs that need a technician. Switch the AC off to avoid damage.

6. Check the power

A tripped MCB or a loose plug can stop the outdoor unit from running even if the indoor unit lights up.

7. When to book a professional

If cooling is still weak, you may need deep cleaning, a gas top-up or a part replaced. Book an AC service on the Waayzy app and mention what you checked, so the technician can get started quickly.
